A BILL to amend and reenact § 6 of Chapter 3, as amended, of Chapter 99 of the Acts of Assembly of 1940, which provided a charter for the Town of Iron Gate, relating to chief of police.

Be it  enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1.  That § 6 of Chapter 3, as amended, of Chapter 99 of the Acts of Assembly of 1940 is amended and reenacted as follows:

TOWN SERGEANTCHIEF OF POLICE

§ 6.  The town council may, by a majority vote, appoint a town sergeantchief of police.  The town sergeantchief of police shall qualify by taking the oath prescribed by the Code of Virginia and give bond in such amount as the council may require.  He shall be vested with powers of a conservator of the peace, and shall have the same powers and discharge the same duties as a constable within the corporate limits of the town and to a distance of one mile beyond the same, and shall perform such other duties as may be from time to time prescribed by the council.
