HB508: Retirement System; prohibits reduction in the net retirement benefit paid to state employees.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 51.1-124.13 as follows:
§ 51.1-124.13. Net benefits to state retirees not to be reduced.
The net retirement benefit paid to any current retired state employee shall not be reduced by any increase in health insurance premiums unless such increase results from the selection of expanded coverage by the retiree. The net retirement benefit paid to any future retiree shall not be reduced by any increase in health insurance premiums subsequent to the effective date of retirement unless such increase results from the selection of expanded coverage by the retiree.
