HB824: Signs; authorizes any town to request and pay for installation thereof.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That § 33.1-210.2 of the Code of Virginia is amended and reenacted as follows:
§ 33.1-210.2. Installation and maintenance of certain signs in counties and towns.
The governing body of any county or town may
by resolution request the Commissioner to install and maintain, at locations
specified in such resolution, signs alerting motorists that children may be at
play nearby. Upon receipt of such resolution, the Commissioner shall, within
thirty days, respond in writing to such governing body granting or denying the
request. Such signs requested by and installed in any town shall not require the approval of the county within which
such town is located. Any such signs
installed in any town without the approval of the county shall be paid for by
the town requesting the installation of the signs. The cost of
installation of signs approved by the county and installed under
this section shall be paid, at the option of the governing body,
either (i) out of the secondary system construction allocation to the affected
county, (ii) from direct contributions or grants made for such purpose to the
governing body, or (iii) from such other source as may be provided by the
governing body and the cost of maintaining such signs shall be paid out of the
secondary system maintenance allocation to the affected county.
The provisions of this section shall not apply to any county that has withdrawn its roads from the secondary system of state highways under the provisions of § 11 of Chapter 415 of the Acts of 1932 and has not elected to return.

Explanation
This is the actual text of the bill — the legislation itself. Generally this is amending existing law, proposing the addition or removal of words from laws that are already on the books.
Words that are highlighted in yellow are
proposed additions, and words that are crossed out in
red are proposed removals.
The numbers with the § symbol before them are references to existing laws, and if you click on them they’ll take you to that part of the law on the state's website.
