HJ149: Celebrating the life of James Barrett Walthall.

WHEREAS, James Barrett Walthall, admired and respected citizen of Richmond, died October 3, 2005; and
WHEREAS, a native of Richmond, James “Jim” Walthall graduated from John Marshall High School, attended the University of Richmond, and served his country in the United States Army; and
WHEREAS, after many years of outstanding service, Jim Walthall retired as Deputy City Treasurer for the City of Richmond; and
WHEREAS, involved in community affairs, Jim Walthall was a member of the Electoral Board for the City of Richmond, the Virginia Historical Society, the Library of Virginia, the Mayflower Society and he was active in politics and the Democratic Party; and
WHEREAS, Jim Walthall was committed to improving the quality of life for his neighbors and was active in community outreach and a devoted fifth-generation member of First Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and church historian and recently represented the church at a Baptist World Alliance meeting in London; and
WHEREAS, Jim Walthall will be fondly remembered for his generosity and compassion and will be missed by his family, his numerous friends and admirers, and the congregation of First Baptist Church; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of an outstanding Virginian, James Barrett Walthall; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of James Barrett Walthall as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory.
