WHEREAS, Sondra Erlach "Sunny" Weinberg of Richmond, beloved educator and philanthropist, died on June 1, 2005; and

WHEREAS, a native of Newport News, Sunny Weinberg earned her degree from the University of Virginia in 1958 and taught school for many years in both the Charlottesville and Richmond Public School systems; and

WHEREAS, Sunny Weinberg was committed to improving the quality of life of her fellow citizens through extensive community involvement; and

WHEREAS, Sunny Weinberg served as president of the Sisterhood of Congregation Beth Ahabah and was a member of The Council of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts; and

WHEREAS, dedicated to promoting educational opportunities for young people, Sunny Weinberg established the Jay and Sunny Weinberg Lectureship at the University of Richmond, and the Jay M. and Sondra E. Weinberg Undergraduate Scholarship at Virginia Commonwealth University; and

WHEREAS, along with her husband, Sunny Weinberg was honored by the Virginia Holocaust Museum for philanthropic leadership and received Virginia Commonwealth University's Edward A. Wayne Medal for outstanding contributions to the school; and

WHEREAS, Sunny Weinberg served her community, especially young people, with ardent devotion and enthusiasm and will be fondly remembered by her family and numerous friends and admirers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the passing of an exceptional Virginian and compassionate community benefactor, Sondra Erlach Weinberg; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Sondra Erlach Weinberg as an expression of the respect in which her memory is held by the members of the General Assembly.
