HJ247: Celebrating the life of Harold John Hunt, Jr.
WHEREAS, Harold John "Jack" Hunt, Jr., a lifelong resident of James City County, died on July 10, 2005; and
WHEREAS, after graduating from Toano High School in 1946, Jack Hunt studied agriculture at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University; and
WHEREAS, when Harold Hunt, Sr., retired in 1960, he passed the care of the beautiful Hill Pleasant Farm in Norge to his son, Jack Hunt; and
WHEREAS, Jack Hunt sold bedding plants in his greenhouse, as well as apples, cantaloupes, tomatoes, and all kinds of vegetables from the farm; and
WHEREAS, local residents and those from neighboring towns were loyal consumers of Jack Hunt's seasonal flowers and fresh produce; and
WHEREAS, committed to improving the quality of life for his neighbors, Jack Hunt contributed his time and talents as a member of the board of directors of United Virginia Bank, as a trustee of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, and as a member of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS) and the James City County Agricultural Advisory committee; and
WHEREAS, dedicated to helping young people, Jack Hunt served on the James City County school board for many years and as a scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America; and
WHEREAS, Jack Hunt enjoyed immensely time spent with his six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, as well as sharing with friends and family his numerous hobbies of woodworking, beekeeping, fishing, golfing, and traveling; and
WHEREAS, Jack Hunt will be missed by his devoted family, the parishioners of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, and his many friends and admirers in the James City County community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of a fine Virginia gentleman, Harold John Hunt, Jr.; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Harold John Hunt, Jr., as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
