WHEREAS, after finishing second for three straight years, the girls' swim team from South Lakes High School in Reston broke through in February 2005, winning the Virginia High School League Group AAA state swimming championship; and

WHEREAS, the South Lakes Seahawks scored 221 points in the state meet to outdistance Lake Braddock High School and reverse an earlier defeat by Robinson High School in the district meet; and

WHEREAS, in the state meet, the Seahawks captured three events, including a victory in the 200-yard individual medley by junior Mei Christensen, who was named first-team All-Metro by the Washington Post; and

WHEREAS, Mei Christensen joined three senior swimmers, Nicole Pederson, Caroline Bellis, and Dana Constantino, to capture the 400-yard freestyle relay, and Mei Christensen, Nicole Pederson, Caroline Bellis, and Laura Dillon also won the 200-yard medley relay to clinch the state title; and

WHEREAS, all of these Seahawks, including Alex Quagliata and Grace Shin, contributed points to the team's first Group AAA state championship with their performances in other events; and

WHEREAS, the Seahawks swimmers were led by Head Coach Scott Brown, the Washington Post's All-Metro Coach of the Year; and

WHEREAS, the triumphant performance of the 2004-2005 South Lakes Seahawks was the culmination of years of effort by the athletes and their coaches; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the 2004-2005 South Lakes High School girls' swim team on its state championship performance; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Scott Brown and the Seahawks swimmers as an expression of the General Assembly's congratulations.
