WHEREAS, the Loudoun Medical Group has established a free medical clinic in Bay Saint Louis, Mississippi, to serve the medical needs of our fellow Americans who are Hurricane Katrina survivors; and

WHEREAS, Hurricane Katrina caused incredible damage to the Gulf Region of the United States on August 29 and 30, 2005, and members of the Loudoun Medical Group quickly realized that there would be a pressing need for capable medical professionals to help treat the thousands of victims of the devastating hurricane; and

WHEREAS, by September 12, 2005, the Loudoun Medical Group had organized and deployed their first team to the impacted area and discovered a tremendous need in Bay Saint Louis, Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, the Loudoun Medical Group instantly adopted the resilient residents of the City of Bay Saint Louis in Hancock County and has treated more than 10,000 patients there at no charge; and

WHEREAS, because of the slow recovery and the hard work left to be done to medical facilities citywide, the City Council of Bay Saint Louis and Mayor Edward “Eddie” A. Favre have formally requested that the Loudoun Medical Group continue to render free care to residents of this struggling area until local medical providers return; and

WHEREAS, to accomplish this mission, on February 25, 2006, the Loudoun Medical Group held a special fundraiser in Leesburg, Virginia, on behalf of the courageous and formidable citizens of Bay Saint Louis assisted by honored guest and acting chef for the festivities, Bay Saint Louis Mayor Eddie Favre; and

WHEREAS, the Loudoun Medical Group will endeavor to raise the crucial funds needed to continue support of this important effort to aid those in Bay Saint Louis, Mississippi; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend the Loudoun Medical Group for its extraordinary selflessness and compassion in assisting our fellow Americans in need; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Loudoun Medical Group as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration and gratitude for its dedication and skill as a medical provider in a time of great need in our country.
