WHEREAS, Bruce Franklin Jamerson, Clerk of the House of Delegates and Keeper of the Rolls of the Commonwealth since 1991, recently completed his term as president of the American Society of Legislative Clerks and Secretaries (ASLCS) for 2004-2005; and
WHEREAS, the ASLCS was founded in 1943 to improve legislative administration, to establish better communication among clerks and secretaries throughout the United States and its territories and to improve the skills and professionalism of employees in the offices of clerks and secretaries; and
WHEREAS, in 1974 the ASLCS was one of several state legislative groups to form the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL), and the Society remains the most active of NCSL’s nine staff sections; and
WHEREAS, the ASLCS now has an active membership of more than 300 legislative clerks and secretaries and support staff representing all 50 states and several territories; and
WHEREAS, Bruce Jamerson has been an active member of the ASLCS, serving on the Executive Committee since 2001 and serving as chair or vice-chair of several of the Society’s standing committees; and
WHEREAS, in addition to his position as immediate past president of ASLCS and member of the Executive Committee, Bruce Jamerson continues to serve as a member of the Legislative Staff Coordinating Committee of NCSL; and
WHEREAS, Bruce Jamerson is an outstanding leader whose service to the House of Delegates of Virginia and American Society of Legislative Clerks and Secretaries is a source of enormous pride and reflects positively on the staff of the House Clerk’s Office, the General Assembly of Virginia, and the Commonwealth of Virginia; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly congratulate Bruce Franklin Jamerson on his successful term as president of the American Society of Legislative Clerks and Secretaries and commend him for his substantial contributions to his profession; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Deputy Clerk for Legislative Operations of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Bruce Franklin Jamerson as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for his exemplary service to the Commonwealth of Virginia and appreciation of his significant professional accomplishments.
