WHEREAS, Charles G. Barker, owner of Charles Barker Automotive in Virginia Beach, is the 2006 Time Magazine Quality Automobile Dealer of the Year Nominee for Virginia; and

WHEREAS, a native of Hampton Roads, Charles Barker's career in the auto industry has spanned over 35 years and has culminated in his becoming the owner of dealerships in Virginia and Florida with franchises for Toyota, Scion, Lexus, Infiniti, and Hyundai; and

WHEREAS, an active and dedicated member of his community, Charles Barker has served on a wide array of local boards, commissions, and committees for many years; and

WHEREAS, Charles Barker has been a leader in his community, including service to the Virginia Beach Foundation and the Virginia Beach Economic Development Advisory Board, and the Virginia Beach Sheriff appointed him as an honorary deputy sheriff in 2004; and

WHEREAS, through his generosity, Charles Barker has provided opportunities for local students to pursue their goals in higher education with the Charles Barker Scholarships, awarded to one student annually at each of 14 high schools; and

WHEREAS, an active and dedicated member of the auto industry, Charles G. Barker has served his customers and his community with a generous spirit and has been an example to dealers in Hampton Roads and throughout the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, over the years, Charles Barker has earned the Toyota President’s Award, the Lexus Elite Dealer Award, and the Infiniti Circle of Excellence Award; and

WHEREAS, Charles Barker has served his industry as an active member of the Virginia Automobile Dealers Association, as a former President of the Hampton Roads Automobile Dealers Association, and as a member of the Toyota Dealer Council; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Charles G. Barker on his selection as the 2006 Time Magazine Quality Dealer of the Year Nominee for Virginia; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Charles G. Barker as an expression of the General Assembly’s best wishes.
