HJ382: Commending the Mills Godwin High School boys' tennis team.
WHEREAS, the 2005 Mills Godwin High School boys' tennis team won the Virginia High School League Group AAA state tennis championship for the 12th time; and
WHEREAS, the 2005 Mills Godwin Eagles won their third state championship in the past four years and finished the season with a record of 18-2; and
WHEREAS, the 2005 Mills Godwin Eagles captured their 10th Central Region championship in the past 12 years; and
WHEREAS, in the state tournament, the Eagles defeated Floyd E. Kellam High School of Virginia Beach, 9-0, Thomas Jefferson Science and Technology High School of Alexandria, 6-3, and Henrico County rival Douglas S. Freeman High School, 5-2, to capture the state title; and
WHEREAS, four Eagle tennis players, Randy Loden, Shad Harrell, Phillip Graham, and Nick Sheehan, were named to the Colonial District All-Academic team, and the Central Region All-Academic team; and
WHEREAS, Randy Loden was the Colonial District singles champion, Central Region singles champion, and Colonial District and Central Region Player of the Year, and he teamed with Alex Schultz to win the Colonial District doubles championship; and
WHEREAS, the Mills Godwin Eagles—Daniel Ames, Kevin Calhoun, Brett Cassell, Chris Cosby, R. D. Darden, Phillip Graham, Shad Harrell, Alex Knollman, Randy Loden, Srini Sathyanarayanan, Alex Schultz, Nick Sheehan, Avinash Sridhar, Brian Welch, and Nathan Wood—were led by Colonial District and Central Region Coach of the Year Tom Hoy; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the Mills Godwin High School boys' tennis team on its Group AAA state tennis championship; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Tom Hoy in honor of the sustained excellence of the Mills Godwin High School boys' tennis team.
