HJ438: Commending Eleanor Field Bradshaw.

WHEREAS, Eleanor Field Bradshaw was named the 2005 First Citizen of Norfolk by the Cosmopolitan Club of Norfolk; and
WHEREAS, the Cosmopolitan Club of Norfolk's Distinguished Service Award is the oldest national civic award, and Eleanor Bradshaw is the seventh woman since the award's inception in 1928 to receive the honor; and
WHEREAS, Eleanor “Sugar” Bradshaw served with distinction on the boards of the Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services, the Commonwealth Council on Aging, the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters, and the Eastern Virginia Medical Center, and she continues to serve as chairman of the board of the Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia Area Agency on Aging; and
WHEREAS, as president of the board of the King's Daughters in Norfolk in the 1970s, Eleanor Bradshaw helped raise $5 million to construct a new home for Children’s Hospital on Colley Avenue; and
WHEREAS, Lake Taylor Transitional Hospital has become revitalized and financially secure due to Eleanor Bradshaw’s outstanding service as the hospital’s director of development and government relations; and
WHEREAS, the arts community in Tidewater has benefited greatly from the leadership roles assumed by Eleanor Bradshaw at the Virginia Opera and the Governor’s School for the Arts; and
WHEREAS, Eleanor Bradshaw has devoted her time and immense talents as a volunteer, helping the young, the indigent, and the aging population of Tidewater; and
WHEREAS, Eleanor Bradshaw is a devoted mother to her three children and wife and partner to her husband, Grayson “Bunny” Bradshaw, Jr., during their 54 years of marriage; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate Eleanor Field Bradshaw on being named the 2005 First Citizen of Norfolk; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Eleanor Field Bradshaw as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for her notable and ongoing professional and civic achievements.
