HJ447: Celebrating the life of Samuel Edward Moran.
WHEREAS, Samuel Edward Moran of Bassett, a longtime public servant and a member of the Henry County Board of Supervisors for 30 years, died on May 24, 2005; and
WHEREAS, S. E. Moran was born and grew up in Henry County and earned licenses in the trades of electrician, plumber, and welder; and
WHEREAS, over the years, S. E. Moran worked for the state highway department, the Surry nuclear power plant, and DuPont; and
WHEREAS, a hard-working entrepreneur and investor, S. E. Moran was also involved in the convenience store and contracting businesses and operated a mobile home park; and
WHEREAS, S. E. Moran was elected to the Henry County Board of Supervisors representing the Blackberry District in 1959 and served on the board, except for a single term, until he retired in 1993; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure, S. E. Moran pushed for new roads and highway improvements, and public water and sewer service to county residents, and he served on the Henry County Public Service Authority; and
WHEREAS, S. E. Moran believed in administering the affairs of the Blackberry District and the county “by listening to the voice of the people”; and
WHEREAS, S. E. Moran will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor and willingness to listen to all points of view and will be missed by his family, his numerous friends and admirers, and the citizens of Henry County; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of a dedicated public servant and outstanding Virginian, Samuel Edward Moran; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Samuel Edward Moran as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
