HJ5011: Commending the Carlisle School boys' varsity basketball team.
WHEREAS, Carlisle School of Martinsville is the 2005-2006 Virginia Independent School Athletic Association (VISAA) Division III state boys' varsity basketball champion; and
WHEREAS, the Carlisle School boys' basketball team defeated Tidewater Christian Academy to win the VISAA Division III state title; and
WHEREAS, the Carlisle School Chiefs' victory is the fifth state title win for Coach Jeff Adkins, who has been a member of the school's athletic department for 12 years; and
WHEREAS, the Carlisle School boys' varsity basketball team ended its season with an overall record of 23-4 and a record of 13-3 in the Virginia Independent Conference (VIC); and
WHEREAS, the Chiefs won three games in the VIC tournament, including an exciting win over rival Liberty Christian Academy; and
WHEREAS, Carlisle School was VIC tournament runner-up to Miller School, and seniors Steven Echols and Joe Manns were named to the All-Conference team and the All-Conference Tournament team, which also included ninth-grader Sydnor Trent; and
WHEREAS, the Division III championship game was a memorable victory for the Chiefs, especially the senior players—Steven Echols, the school's second all-time leading scorer with over 1,600 career points and the Division III State Tournament Most Valuable Player; outstanding guards Joe Manns and Jeremy Hunt; impressive forwards Eric Burnett and Benny Robertson; and excellent center B. J. James; and
WHEREAS, Jack Adkins, Darius Echols, Cody Franklin, Michael Goggins, Harrison Hamlet, Woodrow Reece, and Sydnor Trent all contributed to an excellent team effort all season; and
WHEREAS, Carlisle School's triumph is a tribute to the leadership of Head Coach Jeff Adkins and his dedicated assistant coach, Mancino Craighead; the guidance of the athletic director David Gaylor and the head of school Simon Owen-Williams; the talent and hard work of the players; and the support of the students, faculty, and fans of Carlisle School; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate the Carlisle School boys' varsity basketball team on an outstanding 2005-2006 basketball season; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Jeff Adkins on behalf of the Chiefs as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for their championship performance.
