HJ5097: Commending the Washington District Elementary School community problem solvers team.
WHEREAS, the Washington District Elementary School community problem solvers team of Westmoreland County placed second in the state competition and fourth in the junior division at the Future Problem Solving International Conference held at Colorado State University, June 1-4, 2006; and
WHEREAS, Community Problem Solvers (CmPS) is a component of Future Problem Solving of Virginia, a yearlong educational program that combines the rigorous intellectual challenge of creative problem solving with an interdisciplinary study of the future; and
WHEREAS, the Washington District Elementary School CmPS team members are Rachel Pegelow, Tamara Tate, Margaret Lewis, and Karsten Coates, and the team is coached by Laura Coates and Joan Campbell; and
WHEREAS, the Washington District Elementary School problem solver project is called I.C.E., which stands for “Instituting Character Education”; the I.C.E. team won second place in the state which made them eligible to move on to the International Conference competition; and
WHEREAS, CmPS teams recognize, address, and overcome obstacles as they work together to develop a comprehensive plan of action and implementation for their chosen problem in order to make a positive difference in the community; and
WHEREAS, the I.C.E. team was involved in many activities during the school year, including sponsoring good citizenship awards, creating bulletin boards, and helping with the Character Education Fair; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate the Washington District Elementary School community problem solvers team on its second place award in the state competition and fourth place honor in the junior division at the Future Problem Solving International Conference; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Washington District Elementary School community problem solvers team for its dedication and hard work.
