HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 5098 Offered June 20, 2006 Commending Roger Bothe. ---------- Patrons-- Cox, Ingram, Nixon, Reid and Ware, R.L. ----------

WHEREAS, Roger Bothe of Thomas Dale High School was honored as the Richmond Times-Dispatch/Sports Backers Scholar-Athlete of the Year on June 6, 2006; and

WHEREAS, Roger Bothe, who helped lead the Thomas Dale High School boys' soccer team in an exceptional season, received a $5,000 scholarship as part of the male Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor; and

WHEREAS, Roger Bothe earned 15 varsity letters at Thomas Dale High School and is the Virginia High School League Group AAA male athlete of the year; and

WHEREAS, an exceptional track athlete, Roger Bothe is the region indoor 500-meter champion and a seven-time district winner in indoor and outdoor events; and

WHEREAS, Roger Bothe has been honored as a second-team All-American and the state soccer Gatorade Player of the Year; and

WHEREAS, as Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Roger Bothe exhibits far more than athletic talent; he has served as secretary of the National Honor Society and is a gifted cello player in the senior regional orchestra; and

WHEREAS, Roger Bothe is an excellent student at Thomas Dale High School with a cumulative grade point average of 4.8 and ranks sixth in his class of 452; and

WHEREAS, committed to academics and the pursuit of athletic competition, Roger Bothe will play soccer at The College of William and Mary; and

WHEREAS, Roger Bothe is the third Thomas Dale Knight to receive the prestigious award and is a fine role model for high school students across the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Roger Bothe as the Richmond Times-Dispatch/Sports Backers Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2006; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Roger Bothe as an expression of the General Assembly’s appreciation of his outstanding achievements and best wishes for continued academic and athletic success.
