WHEREAS, Katie Doswell of Saint Catherine’s School was honored as the Richmond Times-Dispatch/Sports Backers Scholar-Athlete of the Year on June 6, 2006; and
WHEREAS, Katie Doswell, who helped lead the Saint Catherine’s School cross country and track teams in an exceptional season, received a $5,000 scholarship as part of the prestigious female Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor; and
WHEREAS, Katie Doswell holds 21 Saint Catherine's School records and is the state high school record holder for the indoor 800-meter run; and
WHEREAS, Katie Doswell holds the third-best time in United States high school history at 1,000 meters indoors and was ranked in the top 10 in three events, the 1,000 meters, the mile, and two mile, this past season; and
WHEREAS, as Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Katie Doswell exhibits far more than athletic talent and has participated in student government, the model United Nations, and French clubs; and
WHEREAS, Katie Doswell is an excellent student at Saint Catherine's School with a cumulative grade point average of 4.4 in an honors and advanced-placement curriculum; and
WHEREAS, committed to academics and the pursuit of athletic competition, Katie Doswell will attend college at Duke University; and
WHEREAS, a most deserving recipient, Katie Doswell is the first Saint Catherine’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year in the program’s 20-year history and the third private school girl to win the coveted award; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Katie Doswell as the Richmond Times-Dispatch/Sports Backers Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2006; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Katie Doswell as an expression of the General Assembly’s appreciation of her outstanding achievements and best wishes for continued academic and athletic success.
