WHEREAS, Pastor E. James Eaddy, Sr., is recognized for his outstanding ministry and service to the community of Norfolk and the congregation of Oakwood Chapel Church of Christ; and

WHEREAS, born on October 6, 1960, James Eaddy grew up in the low country of Georgetown, South Carolina, and was nurtured in his faith by his grandmother, "Grandmama Beach," and the elders of First Calvary Missionary Baptist Church; and

WHEREAS, James Eaddy attended Howard High School and graduated with honors from South Carolina State College; and

WHEREAS, on December 15, 1982, James Eaddy was commissioned as an officer in the United States Army and served his country as an Airborne paratrooper and intelligence officer for 11 years assigned in Georgia, Arizona, Texas, and Panama; and

WHEREAS, while serving as the commander of a military intelligence company at Fort Hood, James Eaddy was called to the ministry and began to preach the gospel at Marlboro Baptist Church in Texas; and

WHEREAS, Pastor James Eaddy was ordained a minister in 1995, received a doctor of ministry degree from United Theological Seminary of Dayton, Ohio, in 2001, and earned a master's degree in public administration from the University of Oklahoma; and

WHEREAS, Pastor James Eaddy is a compassionate and gifted minister, who is deeply committed to the church, his congregation, and improving the quality of life of all of his neighbors in Hampton Roads; and

WHEREAS, through his guidance, inspiration, and hard work, Pastor James Eaddy has helped his congregation grow in numbers, faith, and ministry to the community; and

WHEREAS, Pastor James Eaddy is married to his college sweetheart, Linda Walker Eaddy, who is also a faithful sister of Oakwood Chapel Church of Christ, and a seventh-grade Algebra and Advanced and Core Math teacher at Princess Anne Middle School in the City of Virginia Beach; the couple has five wonderful children; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Pastor E. James Eaddy, Sr., for his extraordinary service to the community and the congregation of Oakwood Chapel Church of Christ; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Pastor E. James Eaddy, Sr., as an expression of the General Assembly’s appreciation of his many ministries and his dedication to the residents of the Hampton Roads community.
