WHEREAS, United States Army Corporal Adam Fargo of Ruckersville was killed in the line of duty in Iraq on July 22, 2006; and

WHEREAS, Adam Fargo was born on February 28, 1984, in Frankfort, Germany, to Douglas and Elizabeth Fargo; and

 WHEREAS, a pleasant and outgoing young man, Adam Fargo graduated  in 2002 from William Monroe High School in Greene County, where he was an outstanding athlete and four-year starter on the high school soccer team, as well as a star player with the SOCA (Soccer Organization of Charlottesville and Albemarle) traveling team; and

WHEREAS, after graduating high school, Adam Fargo continued his education at George Mason University and Piedmont Community College until he decided to serve his country in the United States Army on December 30, 2004; and

WHEREAS, called "Doc Fargo" by his unit for his valuable skills, Corporal Fargo was a dedicated Army medic assigned to the 4th Brigade Troop Battalion, 506th Regimental Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), headquartered in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and was deployed to Iraq in November 2005; and

WHEREAS, Corporal Fargo often volunteered for duty with the top engineering units of his Division which were assigned to detonate improvised explosive devices (IEDs) on the roadways, and it was during one of these hazardous missions to clear the way for coalition forces that he died; and

WHEREAS, as a private first class, Corporal Fargo was awarded a combat medic badge, a coveted award for valiant service in the line of duty; he was promoted to specialist, laterally promoted to corporal, as well as posthumously honored with the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, and the Good Conduct Medal; and

WHEREAS, Corporal Fargo will be fondly remembered and missed by his devoted parents and grandparents, his beloved brother, Jason, and sister, Sarah,  and numerous other family members and friends; and

WHEREAS, Corporal Fargo's death is a reminder of the perils faced daily by the thousands of young Americans who serve in our armed forces overseas and whose devotion to duty places them in harm's way; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a courageous and patriotic Virginian, Corporal Adam Fargo; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Corporal Adam Fargo as an expression of the high regard in which his memory is held by the members of the General Assembly and the citizens of the Commonwealth.
