WHEREAS, Rosemary Leary Caturano of Fairfax County, a respected citizen and community volunteer, died July 21, 2006; and

WHEREAS, Rosemary Leary was born on November 16, 1933, in Ramona, South Dakota, to Earl Francis and Marie Beatrice Leary; and

WHEREAS, as a lovely teenager, Rosemary Leary was crowned the Mid-West Marine Queen, graduated from Mount Marty College in Yankton, South Dakota, with a degree in home economics, and later worked in real estate sales; and

WHEREAS, in 1956 Rosemary Leary and her family moved to Fairfax County, but she still represented her native state of South Dakota as a princess in the capital's 1958 Cherry Blossom Festival; and

WHEREAS, Rosemary Leary was employed as a model, appearing in the Alexandria Gazette; worked at the DeWitt Army Hospital at Fort Belvoir; and served as an organist at St. Louis Catholic Church in Alexandria; and

WHEREAS, in 1961 Rosemary Leary married Joseph M. Caturano, Sr., at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Falls Church and the couple resided in Fairfax County; and

WHEREAS, in 1972 Rosemary Caturano and her husband bought a horse farm in Nokesville in Prince William County, which she loved very much and helped maintain; and

WHEREAS, Rosemary Caturano generously gave her time and talents volunteering in her children’s activities and other important community programs, including Girl Scouts, Sunday school, school clinic aide, and tutoring at Oak View Elementary; and

 WHEREAS, Rosemary Caturano was also active in the Fairfax County Democratic Committee, the Prince William/Fairfax County Farm Bureau, and the Oak View Garden Club; and

WHEREAS, Rosemary Caturano was a faithful member of St. Mary of Sorrows Catholic Church and active in its many missions in Fairfax County; and

WHEREAS, Rosemary Caturano will be fondly remembered for her compassionate and generous nature and will be missed by her devoted husband, her five loving children and their families, her brother and other family members, and her 11 wonderful grandchildren; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of a community volunteer and fine Virginian, Rosemary Leary Caturano; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Rosemary Leary Caturano as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
