HJ521: Commending the Meadowbrook High School Monarchs men's basketball team.
WHEREAS, the Meadowbrook High School Monarchs men's basketball team capped a 24-5 season by capturing the 2006 Central Region basketball championship, the team's first Central Region title since 1994; and
WHEREAS, the victory by the Meadowbrook High School Monarchs brought the first regional title to Head Coach John B. Gordon III, who has served as head coach for four years after leading Armstrong High School to the Capital District title, for which he was named Capital District Coach of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Coach Gordon, in his four years at Meadowbrook, has led his teams to a 53-25 record, the 2004 North-South Tournament Championship, the 2004 Times-Dispatch Tournament Championship, and the 2004-2005 Central District Championship; and
WHEREAS, team members Devin Johnson, Dontrell Jones, and Shawn Outen contributed 32 points to the Monarchs’ 63-54 victory over Highland Springs on February 27, 2006, winning the Central Region title; and
WHEREAS, Coach John Gordon's Monarchs played with intensity, teamwork, and perseverance; and
WHEREAS, Meadowbrook High School's historic championship is a tribute to the hard work and team spirit of the athletes, the leadership of the coaching staff, and the support of the Chesterfield County community and the Virginia High School League; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the Monarchs of Meadowbrook High School on their regional basketball championship; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Meadowbrook High School basketball coaching staff and the basketball team as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the championship performance of the Meadowbrook High School men's basketball team.
