WHEREAS, Darius Hargrove, a senior at Virginia Union University, is recognized as the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) men's basketball 2005-2006 Player of the Year; and

WHEREAS, an exceptional athlete, Darius Hargrove is from Warwick and a graduate of Brunswick High School; and

WHEREAS, in the 2005-2006 season, Darius Hargrove averaged 16.4 points and shot 85% from the free throw line for the Virginia Union University Panthers; and

WHEREAS, in the championship game of the CIAA tournament at the Charlotte Bobcats Arena, the Panthers defeated the Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls 71-64; and

WHEREAS, Darius Hargrove scored seven of his team-high 21 points in the final three minutes of tournament play; and

WHEREAS, Darius Hargrove led the Virginia Union University Panthers to their third straight CIAA men's tournament championship, which is their 17th CIAA championship title overall, 13 of which have been under Coach Dave Robbins; and

WHEREAS, Darius Hargrove and the Panthers have clinched a berth in the NCAA South Atlantic Regional Division II and, as defending champions, Virginia Union University will be the host team for the division tournament, which begins March 11, 2006; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Darius Hargrove hereby be commended and congratulated as the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association men's basketball 2005- 2006 Player of the Year; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Darius Hargrove as an expression of the House of Delegates’ appreciation for his extraordinary season and best wishes for success in the future.
