WHEREAS, Fannie B. Cooper, a longtime resident of the City of Newport News, is recognized for her exemplary life and service to the community; and

WHEREAS, Fannie Bennett, born in Cheraw, South Carolina, in 1900, the daughter of Ephram and Carrie Bennett, will celebrate her 106th birthday on July 15, 2006; and

WHEREAS, Fannie Bennett married James Hinson in August 1926 and the couple had three wonderful children; and

WHEREAS, after the death of her beloved husband, Fannie Hinson married Arthur B. Cooper in December 1953; and

WHEREAS, throughout her amazing life, Fannie Cooper has been committed to improving the quality of life of her neighbors, volunteering in community activities and was one of the first members of a neighborhood crime watch organization in Newport News; and

WHEREAS, committed to the well-being of her fellow residents, especially young people, Fannie Cooper is a faithful member of Gethsemane Baptist Church and has been active over the years in its many missions in Hampton Roads and across the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, Fannie Cooper greatly enjoys time spent with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other devoted family members; and

WHEREAS, always concerned with the welfare of others, Fannie Cooper has touched the lives of numerous relatives, friends, and neighbors and remains an inspiration to all who know her; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Fannie B. Cooper be hereby commended for her dedication to her family, her church, and her community of Newport News; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Fannie B. Cooper as an expression of the House of Delegates’ appreciation of her dedication and commitment towards her fellow citizens across the Commonwealth.
