WHEREAS, for the second consecutive year, the Clarke County High School girls' cross country team won the Virginia High School League Group A state cross country championship; and

WHEREAS, the Clarke County Eagles started their successful 2005 season by winning the Handley Invitational and the New Market Battlefield Invitational; and

WHEREAS, after a second-place finish at the James Wood Invitational and finishing third at the Oatlands Invitational, the Eagles returned to their winning ways with a first-place finish in the Bull Run District meet in October; and

WHEREAS, the Clarke County Eagles next captured the Region B title in Charlottesville, winning the championship by 40 points; and

WHEREAS, at the state Group A meet, held at Great Meadows in Warrenton, the Clarke County runners were even more dominant, winning the state championship by 62 points, the largest margin of victory in recent memory; and

WHEREAS, Eagle runners Danielle Moyer (6th), Erin Broy (8th), Sophia Holmes (9th), and Liz Mumaw (11th) earned All-State honors for their performances in the state championship meet; and

WHEREAS, the Clarke County High School girls' cross country team combined with the Clarke County High School boys' cross country team in winning the girls' and boys' team state titles for the second consecutive year; and

WHEREAS, the triumphant 2005 season of the Clarke County High School girls' cross country team is a tribute to the skill and perseverance of the athletes, the leadership of the coaching staff, and the support of the students and faculty of Clarke County High School; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Clarke County High School Eagles on their outstanding 2005 cross country season; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Nancy Specht as an expression of the General Assembly's congratulations on the second consecutive championship performance of the Clarke County High School girls' cross country team.
