SJ214: Commending the Clarke County High School boys' cross country team.
WHEREAS, the Clarke County High School boys' cross country team completed one of the most dominant seasons in state cross country history by winning the Virginia High School League Group A state title for the second consecutive year; and
WHEREAS, the Clarke County Eagles also won their second straight Bull Run District and Region B championships; and
WHEREAS, the Clarke County High School boys' cross country team completed the 2005 season undefeated, with a record of 125–0; and
WHEREAS, during the 2005 season, the Clark County Eagles won the Handley Invitational and the James Wood Invitational, finished first among the 38 teams competing at the Oatlands Invitational, and defeated 13 teams at the New Market Invitational; and
WHEREAS, the Eagles won the Bull Run District title, achieving a perfect score by taking first through fifth places in the meet, and won the title by 61 points; and
WHEREAS, at the Region B meet, the Eagles won by an unheard-of 97 points, then scored the lowest total in 32 years at the State Group A meet, winning the meet by 70 points with a total score of 20; and
WHEREAS, Eagle runners Simon Biddle-Snead (1st), Mike Leonard (2nd), Bryan Broy (4th), Ben Veilleux (5th), Chris York (8th), and Joe Racer (11th) earned All-State recognition for their performances at the state championship meet; and
WHEREAS, for the second straight year, the Clarke County High School boys' cross country team combined with the Clarke County High School girls' cross country team to win the boys' and girls' team state Group A titles; and
WHEREAS, the dominant 2005 season of the Clarke County High School boys' cross country team is a tribute to the talent, hard work, and perseverance of the athletes; the leadership of the coaching staff; and the support of the students and faculty of Clarke County High School; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Clarke County High School Eagles on their outstanding 2005 cross country season; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Nancy Specht as an expression of the General Assembly's congratulations on the unprecedented performance of the Clarke County High School boys' cross country team.
