SJ279: Commending Great Bridge High School.
WHEREAS, Great Bridge High School of the Great Bridge Public Schools celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2006; and
WHEREAS, in 1906, the citizens of Norfolk County, later Chesapeake, saw the great need for a school to be established in the community of Great Bridge, and Great Bridge High School was constructed, with the first students graduating in 1911; and
WHEREAS, since that time, Great Bridge High School has served the community with distinction and honor and has become a distinguished institution of educational excellence; and
WHEREAS, Great Bridge High School also has been recognized as a leader in comprehensive programs and extracurricular activities, most notably in forensics and sports; and
WHEREAS, graduates of Great Bridge High School have served not only their community, but also have provided exemplary service to the Commonwealth and the nation in the fields of medicine, education, jurisprudence, government and business, and in the United States military; and
WHEREAS, members of the faculty and staff of Great Bridge High School have been recognized with numerous awards for their educational leadership throughout the Commonwealth and the nation; and
WHEREAS, the phrase "tradition and pride” has become a motto not only for the school but for the Chesapeake community, which has been a constant supporter and important partner of Great Bridge High School; and
WHEREAS, Great Bridge High School's students, parents, teachers, staff, as well as the community will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the school's founding with great pride, honor, and enthusiasm; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Great Bridge High School on the occasion of its 100th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Great Bridge High School as an expression of the General Assembly’s appreciation for its dedication to quality education and its commitment to the citizens of the City of Chesapeake and the Commonwealth.
