WHEREAS, James Edward Weaver, a native son, was called from labor to reward, the end of his watch, on June 27, 2005; and

WHEREAS, James Edward Weaver graduated from Southside High School in 1965 and was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Vietnam War; and

WHEREAS, in 1989, he joined the Dinwiddie County Sheriff's Office, where he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and served the Office for 16 years; and

WHEREAS, he was one of four Virginia law enforcement officers honored on October 17, 2005, at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial that was established to pay special tribute to law enforcement officers from Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia who are killed in the line of duty; and

WHEREAS, affectionately known as "Bo" to his loved ones, he had four great loves in his life--his wife, his family, his job, and sports, especially baseball--and, as an avid and loyal fan of the DC Giants baseball team, he attended every game and always sat in the same spot on the left-field line during games; and

WHEREAS, a pleasant, friendly, and generous man who loved to laugh and tell jokes, and whose passion in life was family, friends, fishing, dancing, and baseball, James Edward Weaver was always willing to help others and had a special concern for nurturing and setting a good example for young people; and

WHEREAS, his family and friends remember him fondly as a good man, a fine officer, a churchman, a caring and devoted family man, diligent and committed to excellence in his profession, an impeccable dresser, and a man who shared his opinions openly and directly; and

WHEREAS, James Edward Weaver exemplified courage, honesty, devotion, courtesy, service, faith, and love, and his unique gift of encouragement whereby others were exhorted and challenged to improve their lives is an enviable legacy; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Lieutenant James Edward Weaver; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Lieutenant James Edward Weaver, Dinwiddie County Deputy Sheriff, as an expression of the General Assembly's esteem for his memory and gratitude for his contributions to the Commonwealth.
