Elections; polling places; prohibited activities.  Provides that the prohibitions on exhibiting campaign materials in or near polling places shall not be construed to apply to voters wearing a shirt, hat, or other apparel or a sticker or button attached to his apparel on which a candidate's name or a political slogan appears.   View Full Text »

Sounds weird but this is a good "housekeeping" bill to clear up confusion among election workers. Some folks have gone as far as making people wear a coat or turn their t-shirt inside out. This brings some common sense to the process.

You're right, this really is an important bill. I've seen confusion at the polls for years as poll workers attempt to enforce the law as the understand it. Several years ago in Charlottesville, one woman (in the Recreation precinct) removed her Kerry shirt and voted only in a bra, which got a group of us to borrow coats to make available to t-shirt wearing voters lacking any other way to cover up.
