The audio of the song is available here, on the website of the woman who wrote it. There's no way to say this without offending its writer, but oh my God this is bad.
Waldo, you are correct. This song is terrible. I have no idea what Marsden was thinking. It hardly lends itself to "pride and affection". Can you imagine trying to teach this song to grade school students?
I think this is a very nice song. Wonderful lyrics, and the melody is beautiful. It's a song that could be performed in a variety of styles .... by choral groups, soloists, and I think it would grow on citizens of the Commonwealth.
