Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 15.2-1511.1 as follows:

§ 15.2-1511.1. Written benefit information to certain employees.

If a local employee develops a serious health condition that may be life-threatening, the local employer shall provide such employee written notification of all relevant benefit options and programs available to him, within 10 days of the employer's knowledge of the serious health condition. The employer shall provide appropriate forms to the employee so that the employee can communicate any election of benefit options to the employer in writing on the forms.
