A BILL to amend the Code of Virginia by adding in Article 14 of Chapter 8 of Title 46.2 a section numbered 46.2-919.1 and by adding in Article 10 of Chapter 10 of Title 46.2 a section numbered 46.2-1088.7, relating to use of wireless telecommunications devices by operators of school buses and commercial vehicles carrying passengers.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding in Article 14 of Chapter 8 of Title 46.2 a section numbered 46.2-919.1 and by adding in Article 10 of Chapter 10 of Title 46.2 a section numbered 46.2-1088.7 as follows:

§ 46.2-919.1. Use of wireless telecommunications devices by persons operating school buses.

No person shall use any wireless telecommunications device, whether handheld or otherwise, while operating a school bus, except in case of an emergency.

§ 46.2-1088.7. Use of wireless telecommunications devices by persons operating commercial vehicles carrying passengers.

No person who holds a commercial driver's license endorsed or classified to operate Type P-vehicles shall use any wireless telecommunications device, whether handheld or otherwise, while operating a vehicle under the authority of that endorsement or classification, except in case of an emergency.
