HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 561 Offered January 10, 2007 Prefiled December 1, 2006 Celebrating the life of John Jamison. ---------- Patron-- Armstrong ----------

WHEREAS, John Jamison of Martinsville, a respected citizen, retired farmer, and community benefactor, died on October 10, 2006, at the age of 84; and

WHEREAS, John "Pete" Jamison was born on March 8, 1922, in Franklin County to the late Nannie Kate Cobler and John Lewis Jamison, attended Snow Creek High School, and served his country in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II; and

WHEREAS, Pete Jamison fell in love and married his beloved late wife, Jewell Jones Jamison, and the couple shared a cherished life together for 54 years and had three daughters, Sheila, Vanessa, and Pamela; and

WHEREAS, over the years, Pete Jamison was always actively involved in his community and ready to serve his fellow citizens in leadership positions on the local and state level, including as a member of the Figsboro Ruritan Club and the Collinsville Lions Club; as a director of the Henry County Farm Bureau, the Roanoke-Hollins Stockyard, and the Southern States Cooperative Association; as a commissioner on the Henry County Planning Commission; and as a gubernatorial appointee of the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services; and

WHEREAS, Pete Jamison was honored by the Young Democrats Chapter of Martinsville and Henry County for his outstanding service, the Southern States Cooperative with a certificate of leadership for his many contributions, and the Henry County Farm Bureau as an honorary board member; and

WHEREAS, Pete Jamison was a faithful member of the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church and was active in the church's numerous missions in the community; and

WHEREAS, Pete Jamison will be fondly remembered for his love of life and his dedication to improving the quality of life of his fellow residents in Martinsville and will be greatly missed by his family and countless friends and admirers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of a fine Virginian, John Jamison; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of John Jamison as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
