WHEREAS, United States Marine Corps Private First Class Colin Joseph Wolfe, a resident of Manassas, was killed in action in Al Anbar province, Iraq, on August 30, 2006; and
WHEREAS, growing up, Colin Wolfe loved playing baseball and enjoyed dancing in the family owned Manassas Dance Company; and
WHEREAS, Colin Wolfe had wanted to join the service ever since members of the Marine Corps visited his elementary school, and his desire to serve his country was cemented after the attacks of September 11, 2001; and
WHEREAS, upon graduating from Osbourn High School in 2005, Colin Wolfe enlisted in the Marines and trained as an assaultman with the 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force based at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina; and
WHEREAS, on August 30, 2006, Private First Class Wolfe's unit was conducting combat operations when a roadside bomb exploded next to the military vehicle in which he was traveling; and
WHEREAS, Private First Class Wolfe has been honored for his service with the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal; and
WHEREAS, Private First Class Wolfe was devoted to his parents, Mark and Amy Wolfe, his younger sister CeCe, and his girlfriend Kira and will be remembered by them and many other family members and friends for his great inner strength and his unwavering desire to serve his country; and
WHEREAS, Private First Class Wolfe's death is a reminder of the hazards faced daily by the thousands of young Americans who serve in our armed forces overseas and whose devotion to duty places them in harm's way; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a courageous and patriotic Virginian, Private First Class Colin Joseph Wolfe; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Private First Class Colin Joseph Wolfe as an expression of the high regard in which his memory is held by the members of the General Assembly and the citizens of Virginia.
