HJ793: Commending the Deep Run High School girls' volleyball team.
WHEREAS, the Deep Run High School girls' volleyball team won the Virginia High School League Group AAA state championship on November 18, 2006, by defeating Hanover High School; and
WHEREAS, playing an almost perfect tournament, the Deep Run Wildcats broke Hanover High School's 21-match winning streak in capturing the first girls' state title in school history; and
WHEREAS, the Deep Run Wildcats' championship win was especially sweet, because a week earlier the Hanover Hawks had beaten the Wildcats to capture the Central Region championship; and
WHEREAS, the tables were turned in the exciting championship matchup at Virginia Commonwealth University's Siegel Center in Richmond, with the Wildcats overwhelming the Hanover Hawks in three straight games with scores of 25-21, 25-15, and 25-19; and
WHEREAS, the enthusiastic Wildcats, who all made valuable contributions in a tremendous team effort in the championship games and throughout the season, are composed of talented co-captains Brittney Grove, Skyler Halbritter, and Courtlin LaReau and equally able teammates Callie Armistead, Alyssa Lang, Lindsey McClellan, Erin Anderson, Joanna Callaway, Alecia Englehart, Gabby Vizcaino, Mallory Woolridge, Katelyn Wright, and Meghann Forshey; and
WHEREAS, Brittney Grove, who was named Central Region Co-Player of the Year along with a fine Hanover player, finished the tournament with 18 digs and 16 kills; and
WHEREAS, the triumphant performance of the 2006 Wildcats is a tribute to the talent, dedication, and perseverance of the players; the leadership of Head Coach Terra Balla and her staff; and the support of the students and faculty of Deep Run High School; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the Deep Run High School girls' volleyball team on its outstanding 2006 season; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Terra Balla as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the championship performance of the 2006 Wildcats girls' volleyball team.
