HJ805: Commending Keith Lynn Hammon.
WHEREAS, Keith Lynn Hammon, a longtime educator and principal for the Albemarle County Public Schools, will retire in 2007; and
WHEREAS, Keith Hammon was born in Ohio on August 23, 1946, the son of Lynn and Geneva Hammon, received a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio, in 1968, and earned a master's of education degree in elementary school administration from the University of Virginia in 1972; and
WHEREAS, a dedicated educator and outstanding administrator, Keith Hammon has worked his entire career for the Albemarle County Public Schools; and
WHEREAS, from 1968 until 1974, Keith Hammon taught the 6th grade at three Albemarle County Public Schools—McIntire, Woodbrook, and Hollymead; and
WHEREAS, Keith Hammon was the assistant principal at Hollymead Elementary School from 1974 to 1975, and the principal at Stony Point Elementary School from 1975 to 1987, at Woodbrook Elementary School from 1987 to 2001, and currently at Baker-Butler Elementary School from 2001 to the present; and
WHEREAS, committed to excellence in education, Keith Hammon is an active member of the American Education Association, the Virginia Education Association, the Albemarle Education Association, and the Virginia Association of Elementary School Principals; he was a state delegate to the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) convention in 1985 and a member of the NAESP Fellows Program in 1983-1984; and
WHEREAS, Keith Hammon has been a member and vice president for membership of the local chapter of Phi Delta Kappa, a presenter at its Multicultural Institute in Washington, D.C., in 2002, and the recipient of Phi Delta Kappa's Alton L. Taylor Administrative Leadership Award and Central Administrator of the Year Award in 2004; and
WHEREAS, always concerned with the well-being of his neighbors, especially as a mentor for young people, Keith Hammon has been a member and officer of the Stony Point Ruritan Club and a coach of Little League baseball, basketball, and soccer, as well as a former master of Cub Scout Pack #142; and
WHEREAS, knowledgeable regarding civic affairs, Keith Hammon has served on the Albemarle County Equity and Diversity Committee and the Administrative Performance Appraisal Committee; and
WHEREAS, Keith Hammon is a faithful member of Saint Mark’s Lutheran Church, where he has served as Sunday school superintendent, church council member, chair of the Men’s Group, and a member of the Associate Pastor’s Pastoral Relations Committee; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Keith Lynn Hammon for his outstanding and longtime service to Albemarle County Public Schools; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Keith Lynn Hammon as an expression of the General Assembly's gratitude for his many years of service to the citizens of Albemarle County and best wishes for a happy and rewarding retirement.
