HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 825 Offered January 30, 2007 Commending NII Holdings, Inc. ---------- Patrons-- Plum; Senator: Howell ----------

WHEREAS, NII Holdings, Inc., was honored by the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce and Reston Interfaith, Inc., with a 2007 Best of Reston award; and

WHEREAS, the Best of Reston awards were established to recognize individuals, businesses, and organizations that have demonstrated a strong commitment to serving the Reston community and improving the lives of others; and

WHEREAS, NII Holdings, Inc., is a Reston-based telecommunications company that encourages its employees, through its Social Responsibility Committee, to work together to make a difference in the lives of their neighbors; and

WHEREAS, the employees' impact has been tremendous, particularly in the lives of four families who came to Fairfax County in the wake of Hurricane Katrina; NII Holdings donated funds to assist these families in rebuilding their lives; and

WHEREAS, NII Holdings has helped other local families through its collaboration with Habitat for Humanity, providing over 60 volunteers in the summer of 2005 who helped build three new homes in Fairfax in addition to making substantial financial contributions; and

WHEREAS, for the past two years, NII Holdings has supported Kids R First and Reston Interfaith's back-to-school drive by contributing about 150 backpacks each year and giving to local holiday food and gift drives; and

WHEREAS, NII Holdings' year-round community involvement extends to charities and events such as the Ronald McDonald House, Race for the Cure, World Education and Development Fund, Help the Homeless Walkathon, Hispanic Scholarship Fund, and Kidsave; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend NII Holdings, Inc., for its outstanding service to the citizens of Northern Virginia and congratulate the company on its 2007 Best of Reston award; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to NII Holdings, Inc., as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration and gratitude for the company's efforts on behalf of Reston and communities in the surrounding area.
