WHEREAS, Charles H. Porter of Chester, a respected citizen and longtime and dedicated school counselor for the Chesterfield County Public Schools, died on October 31, 2006; and

WHEREAS, Charles H. “Buck” Porter was born on August 4, 1935, in Matoaca, the son of the late Grover and Virginia Porter; and

WHEREAS, Buck Porter received a bachelor's degree from Emory and Henry College, and after graduation, decided to pursue a career as a public school counselor; and

WHEREAS, possessing a strong desire to help young people and guide them as they decide the direction of their future, Buck Porter joined the Chesterfield County Public Schools and worked for many years advising students at Salem Middle School; and

WHEREAS, committed to improving the quality of life of his fellow citizens, Buck Porter was an active member of the Chester Kiwanis Club, participating in its numerous volunteer and charitable activities for over 25 years; and

WHEREAS, Buck Porter was knowledgeable regarding civic affairs and public issues, fervently believed that every citizen should participate in the political process, and was an enthusiastic supporter, fundraiser, and volunteer for the Chesterfield County Republican Committee and on several election campaigns over the years; and

WHEREAS, Buck Porter was a faithful member and leader of the Matoaca United Methodist Church and supported the church's many missions in the community; and

WHEREAS, Buck Porter will be fondly remembered for his devotion to his family, especially his wonderful grandchildren, and greatly missed by his beloved wife Shelby; his loving son and daughter, Matthew and Whitney; his grandchildren Glenn and Caroline; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of a committed community supporter, outstanding school counselor, and a fine Virginian, Charles H. Porter; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Charles H. Porter as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
