WHEREAS, Jane Ross Francis Wagner of Richmond, a respected citizen and admired community supporter and talented musician and vocalist, died on January 15, 2007; and
WHEREAS, Jane Wagner was born in Patterson, New Jersey, the daughter of the late Joseph and Gladys Francis, and graduated in 1960 from Elmira College in Elmira, New York, where she remained involved with college alumnae activities; and
WHEREAS, Jane Wagner was an accomplished pianist and musician and served as organist and choir director for the Wycliffe Presbyterian Church in Virginia Beach while her husband was stationed with a fighter squadron at Oceana Naval Air Station and deployed aboard the USS Forrestal; and
WHEREAS, when the Wagner family settled in Richmond in 1969, Jane Wagner joined River Road Presbyterian Church, was actively involved in its choir, and also sang with the Chorus of Alumni and Friends of the University of Richmond under Dr. James Erb; and
WHEREAS, Jane Wagner was a great worker in the Republican Party on the local, state, and national level, ran for the Virginia House of Delegates in 1979, volunteered on numerous Republican campaigns over the years, and served on the Republican State Central Committee, as a delegate to the National Republican Convention in 1984, and as a member of Republicans for Choice; and
WHEREAS, admired by her friends as an accomplished gourmet cook, Jane Wagner and her husband had been active in the local chapter of the international food and wine organization, La Confrérie de la Chaîne des Rôtisseurs; and
WHEREAS, a dedicated member of her community, Jane Wagner gave generously of her time and immense talents to improve the quality of life of her fellow Richmonders, and her keen intelligence, wonderful sense of humor, and zest for life were an inspiration to her family, friends, and colleagues; and
WHEREAS, Jane Wagner will be sorely missed by her devoted husband, her wonderful sons and their families, her grandchildren, numerous other loving family members and friends, and the congregation of River Road Presbyterian Church; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of an outstanding Virginian, Jane Ross Francis Wagner; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Jane Ross Francis Wagner as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
