HJ841: Commending Judge H. Harrison Braxton, Jr.

WHEREAS, H. Harrison Braxton, Jr., an admired and respected circuit court judge of the Fifteenth Judicial District, retired on December 31, 2006, after many years of outstanding public service to the citizens of the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, after graduation from the University of Virginia Law School in 1961, Harrison Braxton worked as a judge advocate in the U.S. Air Force at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas for two years and then served a tour of duty in Vietnam with the Air Force; and
WHEREAS, in 1965, Harrison Braxton joined the firm of Willis & Garnett in Fredericksburg, practiced law there and in successor firms for over 30 years, and from 1974 to 1981 worked as an attorney for the Commonwealth for the City of Fredericksburg; and
WHEREAS, Judge Braxton honorably served as a substitute judge for the General District Court for the Fifteenth Judicial District for eight years and then served as a full-time judge from 1996 to 2005; and
WHEREAS, on April 1, 2005, Judge Braxton was appointed to the Circuit Court for the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit, which he served until his retirement; and
WHEREAS, throughout his distinguished career, Judge Braxton was actively involved in professional organizations including the Virginia State Bar and the Virginia State Bar Association; the Fredericksburg Bar Association, which he served as president; the Judicial Education Committee of General District Judges; and the District Judges Association; and
WHEREAS, Judge Braxton has been equally committed to participating in community organizations and has devoted his time and energy as a member of the Association of Retarded Citizens, the Special Olympics, the Virginia State Golf Association, the Fredericksburg Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Historic Fredericksburg Foundation, among others; and
WHEREAS, Judge Braxton has served the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit with great dignity and wisdom, always showing concern and compassion for the welfare of the citizens of the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend H. Harrison Braxton, Jr., for his longtime service on the bench; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to H. Harrison Braxton, Jr., as an expression of the General Assembly's best wishes for a rewarding retirement.
