WHEREAS, the football team from Phoebus High School in Hampton capped a stellar season by winning the school's third state football title in six years; and

WHEREAS, by defeating Thomas Edison High School of Alexandria, 34–25, in the final game at Todd Stadium on December 9, 2006, the Phoebus High School Phantoms won the Virginia High School League Group AAA, Division 5 state championship; and

WHEREAS, Head Coach Bill Dee started out the 2006 season by emphasizing hard work and an overall team effort and the Phantoms delivered, completing the regular season 13–1 and decisively winning the Peninsula District championship; and

WHEREAS, Phoebus High School shut out Lake Taylor High School, 24–0, in a playoff game, defeated Maury High School, 25–8, in the eastern regional championship, and won a hard-fought semifinal game against Potomac High School, 31–28; and

WHEREAS, coming out of the tough and highly competitive Peninsula District, the Phoebus High School Phantoms were determined to leave no doubt about the identity of the best Division 5 team in the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, the triumphant performance of the 2006 Phantoms is a tribute to the talent, dedication, and perseverance of the players; the leadership of Head Coach Bill Dee and his excellent staff; and the support of the students and faculty of Phoebus High School; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend the 2006 Phoebus High School Phantoms on their championship football season; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Bill Dee as an expression of the General Assembly's congratulations on the exceptional performance of the 2006 Phoebus High School football team.
