HJ881: Commending Memory Porter.
Patrons-- May, Caputo, Marshall, R.G., Poisson and Rust; Senators: Herring and Potts
WHEREAS, in May 2007, Memory Porter will retire after 27 years of service to the people of Loudoun County and the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, beginning with the 1982 Session of the General Assembly, Memory Porter has served continuously as Loudoun County’s legislative liaison, having been promoted to Chief of Legislative Services in 1986 and designated as Assistant to the County Administrator in 1988; and
WHEREAS, over 27 years, Memory Porter has earned the confidence of two County Administrators, seven chairs of the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors, and seven different boards, all having diverse philosophies, goals, and political affiliations; and
WHEREAS, Memory Porter has gained an encyclopedic knowledge and understanding of Title 15.2 of the Code of Virginia and other statutes affecting local government, for which she is respected and admired by local officials throughout the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Memory Porter is respected by legislators, staff members, and other lobbyists for her understanding of legislative issues and procedures and frequently serves as a reliable, nonpartisan source of information about bills affecting local government, regardless of whether she is supporting or opposing those bills; and
WHEREAS, Memory Porter’s tireless advocacy has led to the passage of many legislative measures of benefit to Loudoun County, including notably the creation of the Route 28 Special Transportation District; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Memory Porter for her longtime service to the citizens of the County of Loudoun and the Commonwealth; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Memory Porter as an expression of the General Assembly's best wishes for a joyful and fulfilling retirement.
