WHEREAS, Goldie Y. Rawlings of Carrsville, a respected citizen and beloved pillar of the community, died on December 8, 2006; and

WHEREAS, Goldie Rawlings was born in Southampton County, the second of nine siblings, on April 12, 1918, to Lelia and Andrew Young, and she was educated in Southampton Public Schools; and

WHEREAS, Goldie Rawlings married her one and only love, the late J. B. Rawlings, on October 24, 1936; she was a loving and devoted wife for 52 years, and the couple were blessed with five wonderful children, including two beloved sons who preceded her in death, Joe Bob and Clark Alford; and

WHEREAS, an industrious worker and pioneer, Goldie Rawlings retired from Planters Nut and Chocolate Company of Suffolk, now Kraft Foods, after many years of outstanding service as a factory worker, elevator operator, and as the company's first female forklift operator; and

WHEREAS, affectionately known as "Miss Goldie" by her family and friends, Goldie Rawlings gave generously of her time and talents to help her neighbors and her fellow citizens in need, especially by creating crocheted baby blankets, afghans, hats, and other gifts of comfort and love; and

WHEREAS, a woman of remarkable fortitude, faith, and family values, Goldie Rawlings instilled in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren a strong work ethic and sense of duty, a spirit of independence, and a great love of the church and was an inspiration to all who knew her well; and

WHEREAS, always concerned with the welfare of her fellow residents, Goldie Rawlings was an active member of the Oak Street Senior Citizens Center and the local Order of the Eastern Star; and

WHEREAS, Goldie Rawlings was a faithful member of the Pulaski Baptist Church of Carrsville and participated in its numerous missions in the community; and

WHEREAS, Goldie Rawlings will be fondly remembered for her many gifts of love and her enjoyment of travel and greatly missed by her devoted family, her countless friends and admirers, and the congregation of Pulaski Baptist Church; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of a generous community benefactor and fine Virginian, Goldie Y. Rawlings; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Goldie Y. Rawlings as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
