HJ925: Commending the North Stafford High School step team.
WHEREAS, the North Stafford High School step team triumphed in January 2007 in a national competition sponsored by Sony Pictures; and
WHEREAS, the contest, entered by 38 teams across the country, was a promotional event linked to the release of Stomp the Yard, a film about collegiate stepping; and
WHEREAS, participating teams submitted videos of their performances that were posted on the film's website and then voted on by viewers; and
WHEREAS, after surviving a first round of competition to be named one of four finalists, the North Stafford step team then went on to win 50 percent of the vote, earning 14,000 votes overall, in the final balloting to claim the top prize; and
WHEREAS, North Stafford has had a step team for seven years, and team members practice eight to 10 hours a week to polish their demanding, high-energy performances; and
WHEREAS, the success of the North Stafford High School step team is a tribute to the talent, dedication, and perseverance of the team members; the leadership of volunteer Coach Mary Jones; and the support of the school and the community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the North Stafford High School step team on its outstanding performance; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Coach Mary Jones as an expression of the General Assembly's congratulations for the North Stafford step team's achievement.
