WHEREAS, Warren A. Crawford of Roanoke, a 30-year veteran of the Roanoke City Public Schools, died on January 25, 2007, after a long battle with cancer; and

WHEREAS, born on January 26, 1947, Warren Crawford grew up in Washington, D.C., and after graduating from Roanoke College in 1970, he went on to earn a master's in education at Radford University; and

WHEREAS, after working in Rappahannock County for a couple of years to earn his elementary school teaching license, Warren Crawford returned to Roanoke and began teaching at Oakland Elementary School; and

WHEREAS, due to his great talent and energy, Warren Crawford was quickly promoted to principal and the first school he led was Monterey Elementary; and

WHEREAS, from Monterey, Warren Crawford moved on to Fairview Elementary, and during his 10-year tenure there, he helped create a magnet school curriculum centered on plants and animals; and

WHEREAS, Warren Crawford was next tapped to lead Fallon Park Elementary, where his expertise and sure guidance helped lay the groundwork for the school's recent turnaround; and

WHEREAS, Warren Crawford left Fallon Park to take a position in the school system's central administration, but he missed the daily interaction with children and a year later he was at the helm of Monterey Elementary, doing what he did best; and

WHEREAS, beloved by students and teachers alike, Warren Crawford truly felt that he could make a difference in the lives of young children by getting them excited about learning at a young age; and

WHEREAS, Warren Crawford will be fondly remembered and sorely missed by his wife, Judy, their daughter and son-in-law and two grandchildren, many other family members and friends, and countless students, colleagues, and supporters in the Roanoke City Public Schools; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Warren A. Crawford, an outstanding educator and a fine Virginian; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Warren A. Crawford as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory.
