HJ940: Commending Annandale Christian Community for Action on the occasion of its 40th anniversary.

WHEREAS, in 2007, Annandale Christian Community for Action celebrates 40 years of providing critical services to people in need in Fairfax County; and
WHEREAS, Annandale Christian Community for Action (ACCA) is a coalition of 26 churches meeting the emergency and critical needs of thousands of people regardless of religion, race, or ethnicity; and
WHEREAS, ACCA's first ministry was a daycare center that today serves over 200 infants and children and is a fully accredited and comprehensive child development program with a sliding payment scale based on family income; and
WHEREAS, ACCA provides emergency assistance to hundreds of families each year who are struggling to pay for rent, utilities, medical care, groceries, gasoline, and car repair; and
WHEREAS, collaborating with other local organizations, ACCA helps repair and rebuild homes for eligible families or individuals; and
WHEREAS, in 2006, ACCA volunteers delivered almost 20,000 meals for Meals on Wheels and provided more than 300 people with transportation to medical and dental appointments; and
WHEREAS, ACCA grants college scholarships to local high school seniors with disabilities to enable them to pursue further education and training; and
WHEREAS, ACCA ministries are carried out by hundreds of volunteers and supported by monetary contributions from member churches, individuals, and organizations and grants from Fairfax County, United Way, the Washington Forrest Foundation, and other sources; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate Annandale Christian Community for Action on the occasion of its 40th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Annandale Christian Community for Action as an expression of the General Assembly's gratitude and admiration for its tremendous efforts to meet the critical needs of the most vulnerable members of society.
