WHEREAS, Chief Gary L. Brumfield of Christiansburg, is an extremely dedicated and professional 30 year veteran of law enforcement; and

WHEREAS, Chief Brumfield has served with benevolence and judiciousness as Chief of Police for the Town of Christiansburg for eight years; and

WHEREAS, the citizens of Christiansburg, Southwest Virginia, and the Commonwealth have greatly benefited greatly from his years of service;

WHEREAS, Chief Brumfield has served on the Board of Directors of the Virginia Police Chiefs Foundation, an organization comprised of police chiefs, citizens, and business/corporate representatives; and

WHEREAS, Chief Brumfield has been an active member of the Cardinal Criminal Justice Academy Governing Council, a criminal justice training program regionally located in Salem; and

WHEREAS, the 2002 Virginia Law Enforcement Challenge awarded Chief Brumfield and the Christiansburg Police Department as its first place recipient in a national competition that recognizes the best overall traffic safety programs in the United States,

WHEREAS, Chief Brumfield has continued to serve the community during off-duty hours by volunteering as the leader of a local Boys Scout Troop,

WHEREAS,  Chief Brumfield has continued to serve the community during off-duty hours by volunteering as the Assistant Indoor and Outdoor Track Coach at Christiansburg High School

WHEREAS, Chief Brumfield and his service are greatly appreciated by the citizens of the Town of Christiansburg; and be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, that the General Assembly hereby notes with respect and admiration the service of Chief Gary L. Brumfield; and be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, that the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Chief Gary L. Brumfield as a continued expression of the high esteem in which his many years of community service is held by the members of the General Assembly.
