WHREAS, Mountain City Lodge No. 67 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons (AF&AM), is celebrating its 150th anniversary during 2007 and will host many festive and celebratory events; and

WHEREAS, Mountain City Lodge No. 67 AF&AM operated under dispensation from February 12, 1857, until receiving an official charter and held its first meeting under dispensation on March 2, 1857, in the Odd Fellows Hall; and

WHEREAS, Mountain City Lodge No. 67 AF&AM was formally chartered on December 15, 1857, by the Grand Lodge of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, at its founding, Mountain City Lodge No. 67 AF&AM had nine distinguished charter members, including James Campbell, Worshipful Master; Milton H. Key, Senior Warden; Edward L. Graham, Junior Warden; James R. Jordan, Robert M. Brown, John C. Boude, John D. Humphries, Richard Wallace, and Robert Campbell; and

WHEREAS, for 59 years, Mountain City Lodge No. 67 AF&AM held its meetings in various locations throughout the community; and

WHEREAS, Mountain City Lodge No. 67 AF&AM purchased a building in 1916, and current members continue to meet today at the lodge's home located at the corner of Nelson and Jefferson Streets in Lexington; and

WHREAS, Mountain City Lodge No. 67 AF&AM supports numerous charitable organizations in the community by contributing $5,000 toward programs such as the local Boy Scout troops, Rockbridge Area Free Clinic, Rockbridge Area Relief Association, the Christmas Basket program, Relay for Life, Yellow Brick Road Early Learning Center, Rockbridge Area Hospice, The Salvation Army, and the Lexington Fire Department; and

WHREAS, Mountain City Lodge No. 67 AF&AM provides funding for two $2,500 scholarships to deserving high school graduates each year; and

WHEREAS, Mountain City Lodge No. 67 AF&AM will celebrate its 150th anniversary with a Grand Celebration to be held on September 29, 2007; and

WHEREAS, Mountain City Lodge No. 67 AF&AM will be led during this celebratory year by Torben H. Pedersen, Worshipful Master; Warren G. Schmid, Secretary; Fred C. Vaughan, Sr., Senior Warden; Mark E. Riley, Junior Warden; Richard L. Kaufman, Treasurer; Robert R. Agnor III, Chaplain; Michael T. King, Junior Deacon; Gary K. Bulter, Senior Deacon; Arnold M. McKemy, Junior Steward; Joseph G. King, Senior Steward; and J. Nicholas King; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate the Mountain City Lodge No. 67 AF&AM on the occasion of the l50th anniversary of its founding; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Worshipful Master Torben Pedersen and members of Mountain City Lodge No. 67 AF&AM as an expression of the General Assembly’s best wishes for a happy and festive anniversary celebration and success in its many projects in the future.
