HJ999: Commending Style Weekly on the occasion of its 25th anniversary.

WHEREAS, Style Weekly, Greater Richmond’s alternative newsweekly owned by Landmark Communications, Inc., is recognized for its 25 years of outstanding service, providing news and information of interest to the citizens of Richmond and its surrounding communities; and
WHEREAS, Landmark Communications, Inc., is headquartered in Norfolk and is a privately held media company with interests in newspapers, electronic publishing, and television broadcasting, including cable television's The Weather Channel; and
WHEREAS, founded in 1982, Style Weekly is one of the region’s most popular and successful alternative sources for news, culture, arts, opinion, and a calendar of community art and entertainment events; and
WHEREAS, known for its award-winning content, Style Weekly has received the Virginia Press Association's Sweepstakes Award in 2001 through 2004, the Award of Excellence from the International Society of Newspaper Design in 2004, and it was accepted into the Association of Alternative Newsweeklies in 2005; and
WHEREAS, the January 31, 2007, anniversary issue of Style Weekly celebrated some of the most pivotal events in the extraordinary Richmond arts scene over the past 25 years; and
WHEREAS, in its customarily artistic mode, Style Weekly will continue to pay tribute throughout 2007 to the most captivating people, places, and events covered by the newsweekly since its founding; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Style Weekly for its 25 years of service, providing news and information of interest to the citizens of the Greater Richmond area; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Style Weekly as an expression of the General Assembly’s best wishes for continued success and a joyful anniversary celebration.
