SB1330: Headlights; VDOT may install signs in certain areas requiring use thereof.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding in Article 15 of Chapter 1 of Title 33.1 a section numbered 33.1-223.2:17 as follows:
§ 33.1-223.2:17. Department to install signs requiring vehicles to display lighted headlights; penalty.
The Department shall install at the approach to every bridge, tunnel, culvert, causeway, and other area where traffic safety may be diminished by limited visibility or sight distance a sign requiring that vehicles display lighted headlights, regardless of the time of day or weather conditions.
Failure to obey such signs shall constitute a traffic infraction punishable as provided in § 46.2-113; however, no citation for a violation of this section shall be issued unless the officer issuing such citation has cause to stop or arrest the driver of such motor vehicle for the violation of some other provision of this Code or local ordinance relating to the operation, ownership, or maintenance of a motor vehicle or any criminal statute.
