SB1337: DMV fees; to impose on transaction in customer service centers if can be done electronically.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding sections numbered 46.2-214.2 and 46.2-328.2 as follows:
§ 46.2-214.2. Additional fee to be imposed and collected by the Department.
In addition to any other fee imposed and collected by the Department, the Department shall impose and collect a fee in an amount to be determined by the Commissioner for any transaction that is carried out in any of its customer service centers. The provisions of this section shall not apply, however, to transactions involving driver's licenses and learner's permits or to other transactions that cannot be performed electronically or by other alternative means. No additional fee imposed and collected pursuant to this section shall exceed $20 for any single transaction.
§ 46.2-328.2. Preparation of plan for centralized manufacture and distribution of driver's licenses and learner's permits; progress reports to General Assembly.
The Commissioner shall prepare a plan whereby all Virginia driver's licenses and learner's permits will be centrally manufactured and sent to the licensee or permittee by mail. The Commissioner shall submit a progress report on the preparation of the plan and a schedule for implementation to the General Assembly on or before September 1, 2007, and a final report no later than December 31, 2007.
